Infrastructural Decay: Philanthropist Adinde Chibuzor Donates N500,000 To Enugu NYSC

The 2023 swearing-in of 1,285 corps members of the 2023 Batch ‘A’ Stream 2 in its permanent site in Awgu, Enugu had many mixed feelings as one of the Enugu Born Estate Surveyor, philanthropist and a special guest at the inaugural ceremony, Igwe Chibuzor Philip Adinde, made a donation of N500,000 to tackle state of infrastructural decay in the camp.

Adinde who is also the DG Rock Ambassador for Peter Mbah after a brief tour at the dilapidated orientation camp Enugu with Mrs Gladys Adama, the NYSC State Coordinator, Enugu was dumbfounded and surprised at the state of the orientation camp.

He immediately made the donation to NYSC to help savage the situation on ground.

The swearing-in which was well attended by collaborating agencies and government officials had in its swearing in ,the Executive Governor of Enugu State ably represented by the Hon. Commissioner for youths and sports Hon Manfred Nzekwe , the Enugu state Chief Justice,Local Government chairman all in representative capacities among others.

Weeping over what she described as the worse orientation camp in Nigeria the State Coordinator informed newsmen that Enugu Orientation camp was horrible for human inhabitation.

According to her, the state are losing corps members who could have served as teachers, doctors and other and contribute to the economic development of the state.

“Because of the irritating and decaying state of the infrastructure at the camp, many corps members posted to serve here will seek for redeployment and there is nothing we can do than to allow them.

“Enugu State government and other well meaning individuals in that state come should come to our aid because the camp is their own as these corps members will contribute to the growth of the state,” she appealed.

Some decayed infrastructure at the camp

She added that the camp was established by Major General Yakubu Gowon himself and lamented profusely on the dilapidated state of the camp.

The coordinator stressed that she was from Benue and Enugu was her second home, saying that, “As a mother who loves her children called on all relevant agencies and state government to immediately come to their rescue.

Adama further stated that NYSC produces a commensurate Enugu state work force and needed to be catered for.

“The camp among others is the only camp in Nigeria without a parade ground , hospitable hostels, zero road network with a stoney walk way , dilapidated building and oven like hostels among other ill facilities,” she added .
