Transport committee debunks dissolution claim

The Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators Ad-hoc Committee has debunked the news that it was dissolved by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN).

The committee disclosed this in a communiqué issued yesterday after a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos. The committee said it was imperative to correct the impression in certain sections of the media that it had been dissolved.

Justice Maureen Esowe had said the suspension of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in the state was unconstitutional.

She ordered the reinstatement of the association.

The state government suspended the operations of RTEAN in September 2022, following a riot and constituted a 35-man caretaker committee.

However, the committee noted that the NICN did not grant or make any declaration or order dissolving the Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators Ad-hoc Committee.

“We wish to state that such and every media report making the rounds and stating that the National Industrial Court by its said judgment dissolved the Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators Ad-hoc Committee is most incorrect and a total misconception of judgment of the National Industrial Court, as nowhere in the said judgment did the Industrial Court make any pronouncement dissolving the Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators Ad-hoc Committee. Also as no such claim or reference to dissolution of the Ad-hoc Committee was ever sought or ever made before the court,” it said.

The communiqué also added that the declarations and orders sought by the claimant were against the purported dissolution of RTEAN executives and the appointment of a Caretaker Committee to run the affairs of RTEAN executives.

However, members of the state parks and garages administrators passed a vote of no confidence in the RTEAN Lagos Chairman, Alhaji Musa Mohammed.
